Life Reflections of Ulysses A. Banks
ULYSSES AUGUSTUS BANKS, son of the late William M. and Viola B. Banks, was born on October 2, 1929 in St. Louis, Missouri. He departed this life suddenly on January 18, 2008. Ulysses received his formal education in the St. Louis public school system. Mter moving to Baltimore, he received an Associate of Arts degree at the Community College of Baltimore. He joined the U.S. Army at seventeen years of age. He spent twenty years of his life serving his country in the Korean War, as well as stateside. During his time of military service, Ulysses met and married Phyllis G. Stanton, and from this union was born two children, Stephen and Patricia. The highlights of his life were his four granddaughters. He was quite proud of all of them and of their academic achievements. In his spare time, Ulysses was an avid photographer. If you saw him you saw his camera. No one was safe from it! He even managed to conquer . . He also had a massive collection of video tapes. Ullysses also loved to bowl. At one point he was a member of three bowling leagues and had become a very accomplished bowler. One other thing about Ulysses was that he was a jack-of-alltrades, and quite the master. He could fix or build anything. Ulysses A. Banks leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Phyllis; his son, Stephen Banks and his wife, Angela; his daughter, Patricia Banks Thomas; four granddaughters, Elonda and Terrine Banks, and Shannon and Jeanna Thomas; one sister and brother-in-law, Otharine and LeVander Smith; four sisters-in-law,Betty Gumby, Alverta Murrell and her husband Calvin, Ethel Jones, and Catherine Carr; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
