Celebrating the Life of and Remembering Sonja Morton
Sonja Morton, the eldest child of David Nathaniel and Hazel Lee Perkins was born on February 4, 1940. She made her journey to be with the Lord on January 5, 2008, after a lengthy illness. “Peaches” as she was affectionately known, met and married Bernard L Morton, Jr. in 1961. Out of this union came two daughters, Sheryll Tracee (Toye) and Shawn Terri. She received her early education in the Baltimore City Public School System. She received her Master and Doctoral degrees in early childhood education from Coppin State College; and dedicated 33 years to the Baltimore County School System. She accepted Christat an early age and was a faithful member of the Union Bethel AME Church. She was a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, the Red Hat Sistas, The Coronas, and various other public service organizations. Peaches enjoyed shopping with her children and her sisters. She traveled extensively and had a style of fashion all her own. She was an elegant true depiction of a lady. She leaves to cherish fond memories: her husband, Bernard Morton, Jr; two daughters, Toye and Terri; one son-in-Iaw, Andre Lane; five grandchildren, Tiara, Courtney, Blair, Bria and Autumn; four siblings, David, Jr., Juanita, Linda and Bobby; one brotherin-law, James, two sisters-inlaw, Lois and Betty; one aunt, Henrietta; one devoted friend, Margo Lawson; and a host of other relatives and friends.
