Celebrating 5 Years as Editors & Publishers!
Happy Anniversary to us! It seems like yesterday when Doc Greenfeld and Bill Obriecht turned over the Woodlawn Villager to me. Now, five years later, I can’t imagine doing anything else (and believe me, I tried). Even though Mom didn’t officially join me until 2004, she was behind the scenes and with me from the beginning. I salute Lisa Sarubin Emmerling who was the art director when I came on board. Now that my major responsibility involves getting the pages ready for print, I can appreciate the grueling moments she, and later on, Darlene Meredith had to endure. I remember in the beginning how Mom and I would bicker over the placement of a line or a dot. Five years later, we are still bickering about lines, dots, and a whole lot more. Even still, we both are passionate about every little thing that goes into every issue. Just recently, we were discussing the mission of this publication. Our original intent was and still is to help everyone to see the good and positive aspects of our community. We want to make sure you have an opportunity to brag about magic moments that other media may consider too trivial to report. By sharing your special moments, we work together in painting the true picture of our beloved community: one that is safe and interesting, one that is filled with awesome resources and services, one where there are a variety of dining establishments to satisfy any palette, one where the schools are full of programs that speak to the needs of students, one where elected officials and community leaders are ever present and constantly working to make things better. That’s Woodlawn, Catonsville, Randallstown, Baltimore City, and all of the smaller communities within those areas. We have really accomplished something with the Woodlawn Villager over the past five years. Because we have stuck to our mission, Woodlawn Village is now a commercial revitalization district, we now have a Senior Center, there are a wealth of new businesses in the area, housing is better, schools are better, and people feel better about the community they call home. We love our readers! Thank you for helping us celebrate our community. Keep sharing and caring! Until next issue, stay blessed!Rate this article
